WHO WE ARE

Our Mission

The Health and Safety Leadership Alliance advances the well-being of workers and the communities they serve by fostering education, driving innovation, and promoting best practices across workers’ compensation, occupational health, and public safety.

The Health and Safety Leadership Alliance is a multi-stakeholder educational leadership platform serving the workers’ compensation, occupational health, and public safety ecosystems. We bring together first responders, safety officers, risk managers, claims professionals, nurse case managers, clinicians, insurers, pharmaceutical partners, product and service innovators, and health systems to advance evidence-based education, research, and innovation through expert-led programs, collaborative learning, and leadership development.

By aligning stakeholders around proven principles of prevention, treatment access, and system design, The Health and Safety Leadership Alliance helps improve outcomes, resilience, and overall system performance.

This work is grounded in measurable outcomes and real-world system performance across agencies and care environments.

The Alliance System

The System Is Producing Predictable Outcomes

We can continue to manage them, or we can change them.

  • Delayed access to care
  • Extended disability duration
  • Fragmented recovery pathways
  • Misaligned incentives across systems

These are not isolated issues. They are system outputs.

The Health and Safety Leadership Alliance works where prevention, policy, clinical care, and financial performance intersect, where alignment produces measurable change.

What Leaders in the Industry are Saying

Robert Logan
Robert LoganFire Chief, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department
"When systems are slow, fragmented, or misaligned, first responders pay the price first - and communities pay it longer. Delaying care doesn’t reduce cost; it transfers it.”
Joseph Sousa
Joseph SousaDeputy Director, Risk Management Department, Workers’ Compensation, Occupational Safety & Health
City of San Diego
"San Diego’s partnership model shows that when risk management, fire and police leadership, and evidence-based clinical teams work together, outcomes change. Disability drops, recovery accelerates, and the overall cost of claims goes down.”
Darshan Patel, MD

"Timely, evidence-based care is not a luxury for first responders; it is the minimum standard.”
Glenn Lorenzo
Glenn LorenzoCaptain, Anaheim Police Department
"At the end of the day, we want the same things. First responders want to get back to work. Risk managers and agency leaders want better outcomes. Working in partnership is how we get there.”
